Research division of viticulture and winemaking
Functions:
➤ Introduction and preservation of foreign varieties and rootstocks to ensure sustainable viticulture and winemaking in Georgia, including their use in breeding programs;
➤ Integration of Georgian and foreign grapevine gene pools into the new realities of viticulture and winemaking under climate change, the emergence of new wine types, and the coexistence of traditional and innovative technologies;
➤ Expansion of molecular genetics, tissue culture, soil-climatic, microbiological, biochemical, physiological, and other scientific studies in grapevine and wine research in Georgia, in order to establish world-class innovations;
➤ Organization of enological, microbiological, and ampelographic studies for the protection of traditional winemaking technologies and the creation of new wine brands that meet modern standards;
➤ Study of specific viticultural micro-zones to revise their boundaries and register new ones, thereby expanding the range of Georgian wines and increasing growers’ incomes;
➤ Support for Georgian viticulturists and winemakers through the prompt dissemination of scientific innovations;
➤ Development of intensive technologies for the production of healthy grafting and planting materials, and promotion of basic and certified nursery plant production;
➤ Study of the organoleptic and agro-technological characteristics of wines;
➤ Development and promotion of innovative technologies in viticulture and winemaking.
