The main part of the hazelnut in Guria is damaged by fungal diseases
Agricultural specialists checked the phytosanitary situation in Tkhilinari in Guria. As a result of laboratory analysis, a large portion of hazelnuts are damaged by fungal diseases (fomofsis, cancer, ash, alternarioza, anthracnose, cytospora, pink mould, fusariosis). The researches were conducted jointly in the diagnostic departments of plant pests – Integrated Plant Protection Research department and Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture (LMA).The samples of the hazelnuts damaged by harmful organisms were taken from the farmers’ plots in Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti and Chokhatauri municipalities in order to conduct laboratory research by the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture, National Food Agency and representatives of the regional information-consultation centers in Guria.
The specialists of the Integrated Plant Protection Research of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture compared the hazelnut harvest to each other – sprayed with pesticide and not sprayed. According to the phenomenal scheme elaborated by the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture and National Food Agency, the results showed that in the sprayed hazelnut gardens - 84% of the harvest is healthy, damaged with Brown Marmorate Stink Bugs – 3%, damaged with fungal diseases – 9 %. In the not sprayed gardens only 8% of hazelnuts are healthy, 66 % are damaged from fungal diseases and 6 % from Brown Marmorate Stink Bugs. Those farmers, who did not share the advice of specialists concerning the gardens of hazelnuts, received only 22% of the healthy harvest, 6 % is damaged by Brown Marmorate Stink Bugs and 60 % from fungal diseases. According to specialists, there are problems in hazelnut gardens, where the rules of hazelnuts’ caring-growing and pruning-forming have been violated.
