Breeding activities in animal breeding can be regulated by law

The discussion of the draft law on the ,,breeding activities in animal breeding’’ was held in cooperation with the field specialists by the department of Livestock Breeding, Veterinary and Forage Production of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture. The purpose of the draft law is to define the unified principles of state regulation on the protection and improvement of aboriginal and endemic species and populations of agricultural animals and birds as well as introduction of introduced varieties in order to provide high quality breeding livestock and material on the market. The draft law, as a temporary measure, defines legal-economic issues of breeding activities, organizational forms and is aimed at improving the breeding and productivity of agricultural animals.

The draft law envisages formation of laboratories of the data bank, genetic and zoological research, as well as the creation of a breeding department, which will carry out the scientific-technical unified policy of breeding work on the entire territory of the country; Determines the types of breeding work organizations (structural units) and their regulations; The standards / technical conditions will be established on breeding animals, their assessment norms and rules, as well as zoo-technical and breeding forms; According to animal types and breeds, the national and regional programs of breeding work will be approved; The decision will be made on the protection and restoration of endemic and indigenous species on the disappearance, as well as participation in international programs of breeding and exploration work with global significance breeds; The breeding farms, breeding products and / or materials will be registered in the central database of data; Genetic and zoological laboratories will provide expertise for breeding products and / or materials and will coordinate international cooperation in the sphere of Breeding Livestock etc.

The compliance certificate and registration certificate will be issued on the recognition of breeding enterprise. Approbation, registration and certification will be ensured to confirm the absence of breeding products / material origin, species, productivity and genetic manipulations.

Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Association of Georgian Dairy, ,,Caucasus Genetics’’ company, the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara and Agro Service Center and farmers attended the discussion of the draft law.
