The scientific-consulting group fighting against the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug summed up the results of their work in 2018

The representatives of the department of Integrated Plant Protection Research of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture summarized the results of fighting against brown marmorated stink bug in 2018.

In 2018, a group of specialists of agricultural field examined the phytosanitary condition of hazelnut gardens and farms in Western Georgia. Specialists conducted laboratory studies on the nutrients that were damaged by the harmful organisms from the plots of the farmers, as a result of which the main part of the nut was damaged, the reason was in fungal diseases. According to the Phenolic calendar scheme developed by the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture and the National Food Agency, 84% of the nut harvest is healthy in the garden, 22% is unspoiled in the sprayed gardens and only 8% in the non-sprayed gardens..

Within the framework of the Joint Project "Mobile Extension" of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the representatives of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture held 48 trainings and 22 field days during 2018.

It is noteworthy that representatives of Integrated Plant Protection Research Department are working on the finding of bio-agent in Georgia against brown marmorated stink bug, as well as testing of bio-preparations and their effectiveness. The stink bug was tested as an overseas producer and more than 10 bio-preparations were created by Georgian scientists.

The meeting planned for 2019 was also focused on the meeting. The researchers continue to search for bio-agent against brown marmorated stink bug, to test bio-preparations and study phytosanitary conditions of hazelnut gardens.

Based on the decision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, at the Municipality of Ozurgeti, in Anasieuli , the arrangement of the laboratory on Integrated Plant Protection is being conducted, where the research is underway on the problems of brown marmorated stink bug at the scientific level, as well the finding of bio-agents and propagation will be done.

The meeting was attended by the President of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Guram Aleksidze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Levan Ujmajuridze, Deputy Head of National Food Agency, Zurab Lipartia, the representatives of the Plant Protection Institute of Agrarian University and by the specialists of agrarian field.
