Levan Ujmajuridze attended FAO's 17th Regular Session of the Genetic Resources of Agriculture

Levan Ujmajuridze, director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, attended the 17th regular session of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Commission on Agricultural Genetic Resources in Rome. It is noteworthy that Levan Ujmajuridze is a coordinator of the Genetic Resources of Georgia in FAO since 2017.

The session focused on the role of genetic resources in agriculture and food security, accessibility, usefulness and the use of digital technologies in genetic resources research. The main emphasis was made on the situation and tendencies of European seed-growing policy and on the second global plan for the genetic resources of food and agricultural plants.

Georgia will send information about the current situation in plant genetic resources and ex-situ collections to the European Plant Genetic Resources Catalog (EURISCO).

It is noteworthy that Georgia became a member of the United Nations Intergovernmental Technical Working Group of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of Genetic Resources. Also, the membership of the European Cooperative Program (ECPGR) of Genetic Resources will enable the participants to take part in meetings and working groups within the framework of the program.
