The prospective varieties of annual and perennial crops were introduced to farmers in Samtredia

The prospective varieties of annual, perennial and cereal crops for Western Georgia were introduced to local farmers in the demonstration plot of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture in Samtredia. Farmers were introduced about care – cultivation and protection measures of the varieties.

"Our goal is to search and retain the local gene pool. The foreign, even very good variety, can not get used to the local ecosystem as local varieties. On our demonstration plot farmers have the opportunity to see the local varieties of perennial and annual crops in order to get full information about their care and then take decision on their cultivation, "said Nodar Khatiashvili, deputy director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture.

At the meeting, special attention was paid to the "Dukato" variety, on which is a great demand for the world market. The cultivation of this culture in Georgia has a great perspective and is profitable. The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture has been experimented the variety ,,Dukato’’ with soil-climatic conditions for three years already, where the variety showed the best results. "Dukato" is a durable variety and it is resistant to diseases, its average yield is 1 hectare 2,8 tons. He is the best predecessor for maize, soybean and other vegetable-cultivated cultures.
