The members of the inner-agency working group discussed the strategic action plan for the protection of the Georgian wheat (2021-2025) with the initiative of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. The action plan envisages the creation of a geo-information base on the genetic resources of Georgian wheat stored in gene banks, research institutions and farms in Georgia and abroad. The action plan envisages organizing conferences, restoring and promoting the traditions of the bread festival, bread baking and other dishes.

The main purpose of the extended workshop was to refine the elements of the strategic plan, the implementation of which is important for the international recognition of the status of Georgian wheat endemic species and local varieties as a cultural heritage monument, as well as their restoration and promotion," - said the director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture – Levan Ujmajuridze.
