The Soil Research Lab is among the 21 best laboratories in the world

The Laboratory of Soil Research named after Porf. Ivane Sarishvili, Soil Fertility Research Service of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture was among the 21 best laboratories in the world and won a grant from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The Soil Research Laboratory, in 2019, participated in an inter-laboratory test organized by FAO, in which 100 soil research laboratories around the world took place. Participants were sent 3 blind soil samples on which, according to the required characteristics and methods, surveys were conducted for a limited time. Laboratories performed each sample in 3 replications because, in addition to accuracy, an error scale was also established.

The Georgian Soil Research Laboratory hits with the best results among 21 laboratories, after which it was given the opportunity to participate in the FAO grant competition and won. By the end of the year, the laboratory will be handed over 2 working-laboratory and 2 special laboratory tables for the scales.

With the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the test was conducted between laboratories for the first time. It is noteworthy that the FAO established the World Network of Soil Research Laboratories (GLOSOLAN) in 2017, the Soil Research laboratory of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture named after Prof. Ivane Sarishvili joined in 2018. In 2019, the European and Eurasian Network of Soil Research Laboratories (EURSOLAN) was established, Giorgi Gambashidze, Head of the Soil Laboratory, was elected as its Chairman for a term of 2 years.
