French winemakers and representatives of the University of Montpellier visited Jigaura’s Research Base

The representatives of the University of Montpellier and French winemakers visited the experimental base of perennial crops of Jigaura of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture. They toured the Georgian vine collection, got acquainted with the prospects of winemaking in Georgia and wines made from rare Georgian vines.

French guests are in Georgia within the framework of the Georgian Technical University program and will give lectures to young winemakers. The Faculty of Viticulture and Enology actively cooperates with the University of Montpellier and implements student exchange programs.

It is noteworthy that up to 470 Georgian and 350 foreign vine varieties are preserved in Jigaura’s grapevine collection, including a collection of unique and rare varieties of Georgian vines.
