Representatives of USAID, ,,Alta Genetics’’ and the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture discussed the current situation and prospects in the direction of animal breeding in Georgia
It was noted at the working meeting that Georgian mountain cows, Megrelian Red and Caucasian Tsabla have been restored within the framework of cattle-breeding projects.The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture transfers the restored local breeding animals to the interested farms for further selection, reproduction, improvement and distribution.
The representatives of ,,Alta Genetics’’ paid special attention to the development of stationary sheep breeding and the adaptation of sheep breeds imported from France. The region of Georgia was selected by the specialists of the center, where the introduction of new breeds of sheep will be expedient at the meeting, emphasis was also placed on the development of breeding activities in cattle and the availability of highly productive breeds. It is noteworthy that from 2022, the Scientific-Research Center will begin to form a system of varietal traceability of agricultural animals.
