Inspection of nurseries in Imereti is underway

The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, in Imereti region, carried out inspection of qualified nurseries producing planting material. Specialists of the Center assessed the phytosanitary condition of nurseries.

According to the resolution of the Government of Georgia "Qualification requirements for nurseries that produce fruit propagating material and seedlings", a qualified nursery is obliged to ensure compliance with hygienic and transport requirements, traceability of propagating material both in the nursery and outside the nursery.

At least once a year, the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture carries out inspections of qualified nurseries and, if necessary, provides detailed information about the stages of certification.

In case of detection of violations, if the nursery does not correct the defect within the period specified by the notification, the center takes the farm from the register of qualified nurseries. A nursery wishing to register in the Register of Qualified Nursery Farms must apply to the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture and submit mandatory documentation.

The process of certification of planting material is regulated by the law, the purpose of which is to determine the unified principles of state regulation in the field of protection of seeds and planting material and to provide the market with qualified seeds and planting material. As part of the fulfillment of obligations under the Association Agreement between Georgia and Europe, seeds and planting material will be subject to mandatory certification in 2024.
