Inspection of Qualified nurseries is underway in Kvemo Kartli

The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, together with the National Food Agency, in Kvemo Kartli region, carried out inspections of qualified nurseries producing planting material and assessed their phytosanitary status. Specialists introduced the international requirements related to the production of healthy planting material and the stages to be passed in the certification process to the seed producing farmers.

According to the resolution of the Government of Georgia "Qualification requirements for a nursery that produces fruit propagating material and seedlings", the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture conducts inspections of qualified nurseries at least once a year. In case of detection of violations, if the nursery does not correct the defect within the period specified by the notification, the center takes the farm from the register of qualified nurseries.

The ascertainment of nursery qualifications, which is a prerequisite for certification of planting material, has been ongoing since 2017. The representatives of the center are guided by the internationally recognized standard of requirements for nurseries during field inspections.

Certification of seeds and planting material is part of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the European Union, which will provide the market with quality planting material, replace imported material and promote local varieties.
