The meeting was held in order to deepen the scientific cooperation in the agriculture of the Czech Republic and Georgia
Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, met with the representatives of the Research and Breeding Institute of Pomology Holovous of Czech Republic, leading scientists-researchers Boris Krska and Iri Sedlak for the purpose of further cooperation, planning and implementation of joint research projects. The parties discussed the activities, current projects and goals of the research institutes.The Research and Breeding Institute of Pomology of Czech Republic works mainly in the direction of conservation and selection of genetic resources of fruit trees. On the basis of the institute, a wide variety of various fruit crops of a temperate climate is gathered, one of the richest field collections of apples in the world, which includes about 1800 varieties and forms.
The guests also visited the experimental-demonstration base of perennial crops of Jighaura, where more than 180 local and 270 introduced varieties are kept in the collection planting of seed, stone fruit, nuts and berry crops. The researchers of the Holovous Institute also got acquainted with the collection of ampelographic and introduced varieties of Georgian grape varieties.
