Cooperation between Georgia and Austria in the direction of cereal crops will continue actively

The director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture Levan Ujmajuridze met with the representatives of the Austrian company producing cereal crops.

Levan Ujmajuridze informed the Austrian guests about the current and future scientific-practical activities of the Scientific-Research Center, the search and restoration of Georgian wheat varieties, the creation of a gene bank, the certification of seeds and planting material.

"The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture has been cooperating with the Austrian side for several years. Within the scope of cooperation, the ability to adapt to the soil and climatic conditions of the cereal crops of the Austrian company "SAATBAU" - wheat, barley, rye, triticale - was studied on the experimental-demonstration plots of different regions of Georgia. At the meeting, a new scientific-research direction of cooperation with Austrian companies producing seeds of cereals crops was identified, which involves the development of joint scientific projects in the direction of cereal crops, familiarization and exchange of genetic resources", - Levan Ujmajuridze noted.

Within the framework of the visit to Georgia, the director of the Austrian company "SAATBAU", Karl Fischer, together with the members of the delegation, inspected the perennial crops’ experimental-demonstration base of Jighaura and infrastructure of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture.
