Inspection of qualified nurseries is underway in Western Georgia
The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, together with the representatives of the National Food Agency and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is inspecting nurseries in Western Georgia. The inspection is conducted in order to study the phytosanitary condition of qualified nurseries producing planting material.
According to the resolution of the Government of Georgia, the qualified nursery is obliged to ensure compliance with hygienic and transport requirements, traceability of the propagating material, both in the nursery and outside the nursery. At least once a year, the Scientific- Research Center of Agriculture inspects qualified nurseries. In case of detection of violations, if the nursery does not correct the defect within the period specified by the notification, the center removes the farm from the register.
Determination of nursery qualifications, which is a prerequisite for certification of planting material, has been ongoing since 2017. The certification system provides the market with quality seeds and planting material, which will promote the replacement of imported material and the promotion of local varieties and protect consumers from unscrupulous producers.
