British wine professionals visited Jighaura base

The director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture Levan Ujmajuridze and the head of the Viticulture and Winemaking Research Division David Chichua met with wine professionals, importers and journalists working on the topic of wine from Great Britain.

Wine professionals viewed the ampelographic collection grown at the experimental and demonstration base of perennial crops of Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture in Jighaura, got acquainted with the history of viticulture and winemaking in Georgia and wine culture.

The delegation was led by the director of "Swirl Wine Group", master of wine Sara Ebot, who tasted wines made from rare grape varieties together with other guests grown at the base of the Center.

"The wines were really impressive, I am glad that the quality of wine in Georgia is constantly improving. Our guests had the opportunity to get to know the variety of Georgian wine. The work that is served by the Scientific-Research Center is very important and gives us the opportunity to introduce wines made from completely rare varieties. Beyond Rkatsiteli and Saperavi, there is a huge wealth of local varieties in Georgia," said Sara Ebot.

It should be noted that 350 foreign and 437 Georgian grape varieties are preserved in the collection planting of Jighaura, including a collection of unique and rare varieties of Georgian grapevines, which were searched and restored for a long time. In parallel with the restoration of grape varieties, the Scientific- Research Center of Agriculture produces wines from rare grape varieties and conducts research on them.
