The representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited the Jighaura Base

The Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vugar Karimov and the members of the Azerbaijani delegation visited the collection of grapevines, fruit crops and agroforestry crops at the Jighaura Perennial Crops’ Experimental- Demonstration Base of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture and got acquainted with the Center's activities. At the meeting held at the base, the main attention was paid to the projects implemented in recent years in the field of agro-forestry and the species protected in the collection. It should be noted that 100 species are preserved in the collection of forest crops of Jighaura, including unique and endangered species.

The collection of forest crops of Jighaura was planted in 2015 for the purpose of conservation and protection of forest crops. Most of the species are endemic. The collection consists of 4 sections, ornamental, red list, wild ancestors of fruit trees and the main forest-forming species of Eastern Georgia. 20 red list species are protected in the collection, including such unique species as Utkhovari, Saghsaghaji, Turanula etc.
