An expedition was held in Samtskhe-Javakheti region in order to collect genetic resources of plants

The representatives of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture collected 106 samples from the plots of the locals attached to a house in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. Within the scope of the expedition, 22 samples of corn, 70 beans, 1 dzadza (Vigna sinensis ), 1 chick-pea and 1 chickling pea samples were collected from 30 places, which will go through the drying process and be prepared for storage in the gene bank.

The collection of samples was carried out within the framework of the ongoing project funded by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The project will be implemented in 8 regions of Georgia for 4 years. Its main goal is to study the current state of the collections of target crops in Georgia, to enrich the collection of the genetic bank of plants and to return the genetic resources of the target crops that were exported to Georgia at different times and placed in foreign Gene Banks.
