The Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture participated in the 10th session of the FAO Plant Genetic Resources Steering Committee

At the 10th session of the Steering Committee of the International Agreement on Plant Genetic Resources of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), held in Rome, the capital of Italy, the main focus was on the preservation and protection of plant genetic resources, the selection and dissemination of agricultural crop varieties adapted to climate change, the promotion of national collections and seeds. It was devoted to the necessity of creating a genetic bank.

The session focused on the involvement of national governments and their role in developing global policies to support, conserve and promote biodiversity.

In parallel with the thematic meetings, the Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture Levan Ujmajuridze met with the President of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) Luigi Moio and Scientific Director Jean-Claude Ruff.

At the working meeting, attention was paid to future cooperation with the involvement of Georgian researchers, protection and promotion of genetic resources of winemaking and grapes.

It should be noted that Levan Ujmajuridze has been the genetic resources Coordinator of Georgia in FAO since 2017.
