The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture also joined the celebration of the International Day of Bee Protection

An event dedicated to the International Day of Bee Protection was held at the Mukhuri beekeeping base of the Ministry of Environmental and Agriculture and the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, where participants emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable agricultural practices, highlighting the vital role of bees and other agricultural beneficial insects in nature.

Bee Protection Day is celebrated on May 20 to raise public awareness about the importance of bees. In 2024, International Bee Day focuses on the theme "Bees with young people". This theme highlights the importance of youth involvement in beekeeping conservation.

As part of the event, a representative of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services held a workshop for local beekeepers and students. Theoretical-practical training was related to artificial insemination, creation of breeding farms, pest-disease management and bee inspection issues.

Guests invited to the Mukhuri beekeeping base visited the exhibition of various agricultural crops received by the center and got acquainted with the samples of honey obtained from the Mukhuri beekeeping base. The event was organized by the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture and the Union of Beekeepers.

As the specialists of beekeeping in the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture point out, protection of bees and other agricultural insects is necessary to ensure agricultural production, food security, restoration of ecosystems and preservation of biodiversity.

In order to raise the awareness of the society, the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture actively participates in the campaign of celebration of the international day of bee protection. At the Mukhuri base, which has been operating since 2017, in addition to the maintenance and propagation of endemic populations, the Megrelian population is being cleaned of mixed bees. The base is actively involved in the training and education of beekeepers-farmers. In order to attract, train and involve young personnel in the agricultural field, it regularly conducts free trainings.
