Farmers were trained on the basis of perennial crops in Jighaura
A two-day theoretical and
practical training was held for farmers and extension workers of municipalities
of Shida Kartli and Kakheti regions in the framework of the project "Expansion
of Multi-hazard Early Warning System and the Use of the Climate related
information in Georgia’’ at the base of perennial crops of the
Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture in Jighaura.
It should be noted that within the framework of the UNDP project "Expansion
of Multi-hazard Early Warning System and the Use of the Climate related
information in Georgia’’, a digital agricultural platform has been developed,
through which farmers will receive information about the expected weather
promptly. The platform is operated by the Rural Development Agency in
coordination with the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture and the
National Environmental Agency. The participants of the training discussed the
issues of the importance of prompt reception of the notification about the
expected weather. The training touched on some agro-technical works to be
carried out in vine and fruit crops, taking into account the weather.
Zviad Bobokashvili, Head of the Fruit Crops Research Division, and Tekla
Zakalashvili, Head of the Invitro Laboratory, along with theoretical training,
introduced the participants to the progressive methods of green operations and
pruning-forming in the collections with practical examples. The farmers
received information about ongoing researches and scientific projects in the
direction of fruit growing, viticulture and integrated plant protection at the
demonstration bases.
It should be noted that the project "Expansion of Multi-hazard
Early Warning System and the Use of the Climate related information in
Georgia’’ was developed with the support of the United Nations Development
Program (UNDP) and is implemented with the support of the Green Climate Fund
(GCF) and the governments of Georgia, Sweden and Switzerland.
