The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture visited the Scientific-Research and Variety Testing Bases in Samtskhe-Javakheti

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Iuri Nozadze, together with the Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Levan Ujmajuridze, got acquainted with the ongoing projects implemented by the Research Division of Cereal Crops of the Scientific-Research Research Center of Agriculture and of the National Testing Division for Selective Achievements of Agricultural Crops, in the village of Vachiani, Akhalkalaki municipality.

On the basis of Vachiani, LEPL Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, in full compliance with the technological schemes, carries out scientific research works of the heady cultures distinguished from the local and international (CIMMYT - ICARDA) nurseries.

The works related to obtaining the basic seed material of the endemic wheat variety "Dika" included in the national catalog and local varieties "Akhaltsikhe Red doll bread", "Shavfkha", "Javakheti Dika","bread of Korbouli Doll", which is a prerequisite for the production of certified seed material, are particularly important.

It is worth noting the activity of the National Testing Division for Selection Achievements of Agricultural Crops, which has been successfully testing autumn and spring head crops (barley, wheat), local and foreign potato varieties in six regions of Georgia, including Samtskhe- Javakheti. The main activities of the services are the study, testing, identification of highly productive varieties adapted to a specific region, resistant to pests and diseases, and recommendation for inclusion in the national catalog for further distribution.

It is extremely important for the agricultural sector to select and test new promising varieties of grain, potatoes and other agricultural crops, production of their certified seed material and distribution to farmers, which provides an opportunity to obtain high, healthy, high-quality products. In this regard, the large-scale scientific and practical works carried out in different regions of the country are noteworthy", said Iuri Nozadze.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, together with Ioseb Basilia, Director of the Adam Beridze Soil and Food Diagnostic Center "Anaseuli" under the management of the Center, and Giorgi Ghugunishvili, the head of the National Testing Division for Selective Achievements of Agricultural Crops, they inspected the experimental-demonstration plots, equipment, machine tools, modern infrastructure for the production and storage of grain crops, potato seed and planting material at the Vachiani base and discussed future activities.
