The number of people interested in bio-viticulture increases day by day
The meeting with bio vine-growers was held at the National Wine Agency, organized by LEPL Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture."In developing countries, tendency to demand for bioproduction is rising. The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia supports the development of bio-farming in the country and, therefore, actively works in promotion. It is welcome that today the number of people interested in bio-viticulture in Georgia increases day by day ", - noted Iuri Nozadze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
The meeting was held within the framework of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation project "Developing Innovative Methods in Georgia in Organic Viticulture". The participation in the meeting received - Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Deputy of the General Director of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation – Sophio Uchaneishvili, Deputy Chairman of National Wine Agency Levan Mekhuzla, Director of bio-certification body ,,Caucascert’’- Davit Bedoshvili and other stakeholders.
The project "Developing Innovative Methods in Organic Viticulture in Georgia" has been in progress since 2016. Within the framework of the project, the first time in Georgia, the bio-grape production scheme has been developed scientifically. In order to support the development of organic viticulture, the personnel of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture carried out researchs in two distinctly different climatic regions - Kakheti and mountainous Adjara.
