The international meeting was held on the challenges of food safety risk assessment

The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture and The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) organized a workshop on food safety risk assessment challenges for Eastern European Neighborhood Policy countries. The participants talked about the current situation in terms of food safety risk assessment and the projects implemented by them. The Risk Assessment Division of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture has presented the critical challenges of risk assessment in Georgia and short-term and long-term plans to address these challenges.

"Our center has been working closely with EFSA, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment and other international institutions in the West for many years, which significantly contributes to the development of food safety risk assessment in Georgia. We have moved on to a new stage - the attempt to develop risk assessment studies of European standards, which is obviously related to the challenges. I am glad that today's working meeting will allow us to develop our orientation in this direction’’ - said the director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Levan Ujmajuridze.

The working meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili, representatives of associations, state and international organizations. The online meeting was attended by representatives of the World Health Organization, EFSA, the European Commission (DG-SANTE, DG-NEAR), the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment and the risk assessment structures of the Eastern European Neighborhood Policy countries.

It should be noted that the implementation of the principles of risk analysis and assessment in the field of food safety is covered by two international agreements of Georgia under the World Trade Organization (WTO) SPS and the Association Agreements with the European Union.
