The government has approved a decree on nursery qualification requirements

The Government of Georgia has approved a decree "Qualification requirements for a nursery that produces fruit propagating material and seedlings." The decree defines the qualification requirements for the nursery farm producing fruit propagating material and fruit seedling seedlings subject to mandatory certification. The requirements apply to a nursery whose activity is related to a genus or species of fruit crop listed in the list of agricultural crops, as well as to rootstocks and other parts of a plant genus or species not included in the list of crops, as well as to their hybrids. , If the genus or species of material provided for in the list of agricultural crops is to be grafted on this material.

According to the decree, a qualified nursery representative is authorized to bring into the territory of Georgia and move within the country those seedlings and propagating material that need phytosanitary certificate or plant passport, while to place it on the market, the fruit seedling produced by it must at least meet the requirements of the standard material Conformitas Agraria Communitatis (CAC). It should be noted that only a nursery registered in a qualified nursery register is authorized to place on the market products of its own CAC standard. A nursery wishing to enter the qualified nursery register must apply to the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture and submit the required mandatory documents.

According to the decree of the Government of Georgia, a qualified nursery is obliged to ensure the observance of hygienic and transport requirements, traceability of propagating material both in the nursery and outside the nursery. The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture will inspect qualified nursery farms at least once a year; In case of violations, the farm will be notified of the non-compliance; If the nursery does not correct the defect within the period specified in the notice, the Center will remove the farm from the register of qualified nursery.

The process of certification of planting material is regulated by law, the purpose of which is to define the unified principles of state regulation in the field of protection of seeds and planting material and to provide quality market seeds and planting material. Seeds and planting material will be subject to mandatory certification in 2024 within the framework of fulfillment of the obligations under the Association Agreement with Europe.
