The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture holds Online Workshop with Food Safety and Animal Health / Welfare Risk Managers and Stakeholders
An online workshop was held for risk managers and all stakeholders on the issues of food safety and animal health / welfare risk assessment and communication of evidence-based recommendations, which was organized by the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture and G. Natadze Scientific-Research Institute of Sanitary, Hygiene and Medical Ecology. At the meeting, risk assessors made presentations on current projects and implemented works in 2020 and discussed issues in a discussion format.At the online workshop, special attention was paid to the ongoing project "Development and Validation of a Nutrition Model and Research Tool for the Study of Food Consumption in Georgia", which aims to generate data on the consumption of food by the population to ensure quantitative assessment of food risks in Georgia. The project is implemented in accordance with the standards developed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). One of the goals of this project is to facilitate the development of a national food database and to integrate this data into the EU FoodEx2 international database in the future. The study includes the specification of national dishes by region, in particular, specification of meat and dairy products, a computer software program for the development of the nutrition model and the mechanism for the formation of standard recipes for nutrition research have been selected.
The project also discussed projects "Antimicrobial resistance genes in Mtsvane kontskhi and Batumi coastal recreational waters in Georgia, conclusions from metagenomic analyzes", "Identification of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli, spread in a broiler, in the populations to determine the alternative routes of risk for the development of resistance to antibiotics of the pterquinelone group"; "Potential Risks of Food Infections Associated with Microbiological Contamination of Drinking Water"; "Identification and characterization of strains isolated from human and animal brucellosis infections ( Brucella melitensis and Brucella abortus ) in Georgia for risk assessment purposes" and "Genomic changes due to bacterial infections and the risks of related potential diseases in natural carp populations."
The online workshop was attended by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili, the Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture Levan Ujmajuridze and representatives of various state, non-governmental and research organizations.
