The Danger of Tropilelaps Mites - Seminar for Beekeepers of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture

The training for farmers and specialists in the field, organized by the Scientific-Research Center in the village of Mukhuri, Chkhorotsku Municipality, discussed the risks associated with the potential spread of the Tropilaelaps mites (Tropilaelaps spp.) in apiaries. This harmful agent is distinguished by its high reproductive capacity, damages bee larvae and brood, and promotes the development of secondary infections.

The event was attended by Irakli Janashia, Associate Professor of the Agrarian University, Doctor of Biology, as an expert, who introduced the training participants to the latest scientific and practical information on methods of combating ticks, which is an important support for both beekeepers and the center's specialists.

The seminar discussed the biological characteristics of Tropilellaps and its potential for spread in Georgia; the differentiation of the disease from Varroa destructor, and recommended control and monitoring methods.

The Mukhuri Beekeeping Breeding Base actively carries out queen bee breeding, maintains traditional forms of local beekeeping, and contributes to the maintenance of genetically sustainable populations. Such seminars play an important role in deepening cooperation based on practical knowledge at the regional level.
