The representatives of the Czech and Romanian Genebanks visited the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture

With the aim of long-term cooperation in line with European standards, the parties discussed the current situation (baseline, active, working) in the national genebanks of three countries - Georgia, Romania and the Czech Republic - and analyzed infrastructural capabilities.
The working meeting, which was attended by Czech and Romanian experts Vojtech Holubec, Dagmar Janovska, Silvia Strageru, as well as the Deputy Director of the Center Nodar Khatiashvili, Head of the Certification and Standards Division, Genebank Manager Tamar Jinjikhadze, and employees of the relevant division, discussed in detail the National Strategy for the Conservation of Genetic Resources, the importance of long-term storage, the modern infrastructure of the Genebank, and plans to strengthen research processes. The parties agreed to deepen trilateral cooperation and decided to hold a further working meeting in Prague, at the Czech National Gene Bank, which will be held in May of this year.
During the visit, Czech and Romanian experts visited the Scientific-Research Center's laboratories of standards, certification, tissue culture (In-Vitro), annual crop seed storage, and field collections, and learned about the seed storage, processing, and quality control processes.
The visit of Czech and Romanian specialists to Georgia was carried out within the framework of the European Genebank Integrated System of Plant Genetic Resources (AEGIS). Georgia is a full member of this system. Along with its membership in AEGIS, Georgia actively participates in the protection of plant genetic resources and international knowledge sharing, which ensures the preservation and promotion of biodiversity of strategic importance to the country.
