World Bee Day is celebrated on May 20th

The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture joined the World Bee Day celebration in Borjomi. The Center's beekeeping specialist, Nana Maisuradze, introduced the audience to the ongoing activities at the Center's Mukhuri research base aimed at developing the beekeeping sector - studying local populations, preserving and protecting typical gene pools, and practical research projects.

The event featured thematic presentations, including a report titled "Georgia - the Ancient Honey-Producing Country," which discussed Georgian beekeeping traditions, modern challenges, and the impact of climate change on the development of the sector.

The celebration of World Bee Day emphasizes the crucial role of bees in the ecosystem and the need to protect them. Holding the event in Borjomi had a symbolic meaning - it was in the village of Sakire, in the Borjomi municipality, that one of the oldest honeys in the world, dating back 5,500 years, was discovered, which once again confirms that Georgia has been practicing beekeeping since ancient times.

The event to celebrate World Bee Day was organized by the Georgian Beekeepers' Union, Borjomi City Hall, and with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
