The representatives of the University of Beja, Portugal, and Portuguese educational institutions visited the Jighaura base

The Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Professor Levan Ujmajuridze, met with the President of the University of Beja, Professor Maria de Fatima Carvalho, the Head of International Relations of the University, and representatives of the Portuguese University.

Levan Ujmajuridze introduced the guests in detail to the history of the development of the Jighaura base, the activities carried out by the center to find and protect unique grapevine genetic resources, the research and educational purpose of the collection vineyard, as well as scientific and practical projects aimed at the sustainable development of agricultural production, adaptation to climate change, and the integration of local varieties into widespread production.

At the meeting held at the Jighaura base, the parties discussed the exchange of genetic resources and directions for future cooperation. It was planned to cultivate a trial vineyard with Georgian grape varieties at the University of Beja in Portugal, which will contribute to the popularization of Georgian grape varieties and the international dissemination of genetic resources. Within the framework of the cooperation, a visit to Portugal was planned, which will be held in October of this year.

At the end of the visit, a tasting of wine samples made from collection plots was held at the Jighaura base, led by David Chichua, Head of the Center's Viticulture and Wine-making Research Division. The guests tasted samples made from both unique Georgian grape varieties and Portuguese varieties.
