A delegation from the Rioja Research Center for Viticulture and Oenology in Spain visited the Jighaura base

A 25-member delegation from the Rioja Research Center for Viticulture and Oenology of Spain visited the Jighaura base of the LEPL Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture. The delegation was headed by Professor José M. Martínez Zapatero. The group consisted of specialists professionally related to the field of viticulture and Oenology - viticulturists, winemakers, researchers, consultants, as well as representatives of the phytosanitary field.

The Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Professor Levan Ujmajuridze, introduced the guests in detail to the main directions of the Center's scientific research and practical activities. The delegation members toured the collection of vines, the vine and wine museum space.

The parties discussed and exchanged information on research projects, including unique genetic resources of grapevine varieties, modern approaches to the production of certified planting material, adaptive approaches to climate change, and integrated and organic approaches to pest and disease control.

As part of the visit, a wine tasting was also held, led by David Chichua, Head of the Viticulture and Winemaking Division. The guests had the opportunity to taste wines made from rare Georgian grape varieties produced by the center and learn in detail about the technological processes of making and aging wine in qvevri according to the Georgian tradition.

The visit proved to be an important platform for sharing knowledge and practical experience for both the Georgian and Spanish sides and laid the foundation for future professional cooperation.
