Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture held a working meeting at the Jighaura base

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Nino Tandilashvili, visited the Jighaura base of the LEPL Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, where she held a working meeting with the Director of the Center, Professor Levan Ujmajuridze.

During the meeting, the Director of the Center, Professor Levan Ujmajuridze, introduced the Deputy Minister in detail about the Center's structure, current research programs and priorities of scientific research directions. He focused on the main functions and main vectors of activity of the Center, which include the search, protection and conservation of plant and animal genetic resources; the study and protection of the local gene pool of annual and perennial crops, domestic animals, poultry, fish and agricultural beneficial insects; testing and evaluation of new varieties; production of healthy seed and planting material; restoration and improvement of soil fertility; promotion of organic production, risk assessment in the areas of food safety, phytosanitary and veterinary medicine, modern technologies for storage and processing of agricultural products, integrated pest and disease and weed management systems, introduction of innovative and climate-smart agrotechnologies and development of standards and certification systems for agri-food products.

In addition, the meeting highlighted ways to promote the active involvement of young scientists and farmers; international and local projects through which the Center closely collaborates with partner organizations, both domestically and internationally.

The meeting was also attended by the heads of the Center's scientific departments, who introduced the Deputy Minister to their work and future plans.

Nino Tandilashvili thanked the center's team for their high professionalism and practical results. She noted the need to strengthen research platforms that will contribute to the development of knowledge-based agriculture, especially in the context of global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity protection and food security.
