A working meeting was held on the priorities and future plans of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture at the Jighaura Base

Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, together with members of the Center's Scientific Council, held a working meeting with representatives of the administrative and scientific services at the Jighaura conference space.

The meeting discussed the current activities of the Center's bases, future plans and priorities. Emphasis was placed on the development of science-based approaches, the implementation of acquired knowledge in practice, and the search for ways to solve existing challenges in the field.

"At the working meeting, we discussed the activities carried out by the Center's departments, current needs and future plans. Special attention was paid to ways to implement new projects, overcome existing challenges in the field, as well as implement the acquired knowledge, results and recommendations in practice - which is particularly important in terms of science-based support for the agricultural sector today," - noted Levan Ujmajuridze.

Attention was focused on priority areas for the agricultural sector. The discussion touched on the protection of genetic resources of plants, animals, poultry, fish and beneficial insects and the need to establish national gene banks. The need to create a research and monitoring system for sustainable management of soil and land resources was noted, as well as the importance of strengthening multidisciplinary research in organic production, veterinary and plant protection. The focus was on improving certification and breeding activities, product storage and processing methods, and promoting innovative technologies. The introduction of climate-smart approaches was emphasized, as well as the management of food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary risks. Special attention was paid to the issues of attracting young staff, strengthening staff capabilities, as well as the active participation of the Center in state programs and the importance of close institutional cooperation with both local and international partners.

It was also noted at the meeting that, in order to raise awareness, trainings and demonstration days will be held regularly at regional bases, where interested parties will have the opportunity to learn about the center's activities, the results of ongoing research and recommendations.

The working meeting was also attended by the Director of the ,,Adam Beridze Soil and Food Diagnostic and Integrated Plant Protection Center Anaseuli’’and by the Head of the State Variety Testing, who shared their experience and visions with the meeting participants.
