A working meeting with beekeepers and farmers was held in Anaseuli

The director of the LEPL Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Professor Levan Ujmajuridze, together with the State Governor of the Guria Region Giorgi Ghurjumelidze, met with representatives of the region's beekeeping sector at the Adam Beridze Integrated Soil, Food and Plant Protection Center in the village of Anaseuli, Ozurgeti Municipality. The meeting was held with the participation of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture and the Guria Beekeepers Association. Participants discussed issues of managing the parasitic mite Tropilaelaps. Tropilaelaps is spreading quite rapidly and poses a threat to both the beekeeping industry and the endemic subspecies of the honey bee inhabiting Georgia. The limited global experience in combating the parasite makes its management difficult. This is why Tropilaelaps is an urgent scientific concern and requires joint, rapid action by industry and government agencies. At the meeting, bee disease researcher, Associate Professor Irakli Janashia, spoke about effective measures for managing the disease caused by Tropilaelaps. A presentation on the importance of protecting Georgian populations of the Caucasian gray bee was given by Dr. Nana Maisuradze, a researcher at the Mukhuri Beekeeping Base of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture. The meeting emphasized the need for complex approaches to preventing the problem. For this purpose, project proposals will be prepared with the involvement of all parties participating in the meeting. The meeting was attended by beekeepers and interested parties, including Keti Moistrapishvili and Lasha Chelidze, Deputy State Governors of Guria Region, heads of the regional information center and Ioseb Basilia, director of the Adam Beridze Center for Soil, Food Diagnostics and Integrated Plant Protection "Anaseuli".
