Researchers from the Center's Agroforestry Research Division were on a working visit to China

Nani Goginashvili, Head of the Agroforestry Research Division of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, and Maia Bachilava, Specialist, were invited to the Northeast Forestry University of China (Harbin) as part of an international educational program aimed at involving foreign experts in the higher education process.During the visit, Georgian scientists learned about forest management practices in Heilongjiang Province, toured modern laboratories, and engaged in discussions on the sustainability of East Asian forest ecosystems, the development of fast-growing forest species, remote zoning and fire prevention strategies, as well as the role of forests in the carbon balance.
The scientists shared information with the Chinese professors about ongoing forestry research and environmental projects in Georgia. Meetings were held with the Head of the University's Department of Environmental Protection, Professor Xiguang Yang, and Professor Zhang Shu. Strategic cooperation was planned, including student exchange and joint research.
Georgian specialists conducted lectures for local Bachelor and Master students on topics such as: sustainable use of non-timber forest resources, conservation of rare species, the potential of poplar hybrid clones, and the uniqueness of Georgia's biodiversity.
At the end of the visit, Georgian and Chinese scientists jointly visited the Changbei and Maoershin protected areas, as well as the Liangshu Forest Park - with examples of unique forest ecosystems.
The meetings were successfully concluded and specific plans for deepening cooperation were outlined.
