A meeting with wheat farmers was held in Akhalkalaki

The director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, Professor Levan Ujmajuridze, along with representatives of the Cereal Crops and Certification Research Divisions, met with local farmers in the village of Vachiani, Akhalkalaki Municipality.

During the meeting held at the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, farmers were introduced in detail to the endemic varieties and characteristics of Georgian wheat, which are adapted to the natural conditions of Samtskhe-Javakheti and are of particular importance in terms of both preserving agrobiodiversity and sustainable development of agriculture in the region.

Special attention was paid to the issues of providing farmers with certified wheat seed. For this purpose, it is planned to create seed production farms in Samtskhe-Javakheti, where certified seed of endemic species and local varieties of Georgian wheat will be produced on the basis of basic seeds produced by the Center's Cereal Crops Research Division.

The Scientific-Research Center, which has been conducting primary seeding of cereal crops for years, will continue to provide seed-producing farmers with reliable seed material, which is an important prerequisite for the growth and popularization of the sown areas of endemic Georgian wheat species and local varieties.
