A working meeting was held on Climate Change and Agro-Economic Assessment

Workshops and seminars were held within the framework of the subcomponent "Agro-economic assessment of climate change adaptation and mitigation measures" of the joint project of the Scientific-Research Center and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) "Expanding the Early Warning System for Multilateral Hazards and Utilization of Climate-Related Information in Georgia".

The meeting was attended by international experts – Professors Tim Hess and Joe Morris, as well as local project consultants. They presented an assessment of future scenarios of the impact of climate change on agricultural crops (apples, grapes, tomatoes, wheat, potatoes, etc.), which was carried out using modern software products (Aquacrop).

In addition, the cost-benefit analysis of measures to reduce the negative impact of drought (irrigation, windbreaks, mulching, etc.) was discussed. The specialists also discussed the basics of agro-economic methodology, modeled results for target crops and preliminary versions of GIS maps of losses and damages.

The event was attended by sector experts of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, representatives of relevant departments of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and specialists from the National Environmental Agency.

An active discussion was held within the framework of the workshop, which addressed the practical implementation of the methodological tools used, the initiation of targeted research in this direction and the need for retraining specialists.

This project creates a foundation for the development of sustainable agriculture and contributes to the development of effective climate strategies in Georgia.
