European and Georgian students were at the Jighaura Base

The purpose of the visit was to learn about sustainable Georgian viticulture practices, climate change adaptation strategies and innovative research.
The Director of the Center, Professor Levan Ujmajuridze, introduced the guests to the main areas of activity of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, ongoing and completed projects, including research conducted in viticulture and winemaking.
"It is especially important for the center to support the education of young specialists and share practical experience with them. At the base, the guests visited the vine and wine museum space, a unique ampelographic collection, which presents both local and introduced vine varieties; they got acquainted with modern approaches to vine selection and conservation and research directions aimed at studying the sustainability and adaptation of varieties under climate change conditions," - said Levan Ujmajuridze.
A tasting of wines made from rare Georgian grape varieties was held for the participants of the “Vinifera/NewClim” autumn school, where the participants learned about the characteristics of varietal diversity and the traditional technology of making wine in qvevri. The tasting was led by Nikoloz Kirvalidze, Chief Specialist of the Research Division of Viticulture and Wine-making.
The Vinifera/NewClim Autumn School is an international educational platform that brings together young European and Georgian researchers in the field of viticulture and winemaking. The program aims to study the impact of climate change and develop sustainable viticulture by combining traditional experience and modern scientific approaches.
