A seminar on legal issues of beekeeping was held at the Mukhuri Beekeeping Base

A seminar was held for beekeepers from Samegrelo, Guria and Imereti municipalities at the Mukhuri Beekeeping Experimental Base in Chkhorotsku municipality, organized by the LEPL Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture.

The meeting discussed the current situation and key challenges in the beekeeping sector. Special attention was paid to the issues of research and implementation of a variety traceability system within the framework of breeding activities.

The discussion covered the restoration and conservation of bee genetic resources, the definition of isolated and buffer zones, and the necessity of expanding the forage base. Emphasis was placed on hygiene and veterinary control requirements, compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) standards, apiary inspection procedures, the implementation of farm management systems, and the organization of breeding programs. Additionally, participants discussed documentation management, the refinement of scoring (bonitierung) instructions, and mechanisms for their implementation.

"Restoring populations of local bee breeds, creating a pure nucleus of queen bees, implementing a farm management system, and granting breeding status are important prerequisites for strengthening trust in the local and international markets. Such meetings and trainings are a necessary condition for informing beekeepers and raising awareness," - noted Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture.

The meeting was attended by Aleko Papava, Director of the Beekeepers' Union, Jumber Izoria, Mayor of Chkhorotsku Municipality, members of the Sakrebulo, village trustees, Nodar Khatiashvili, Deputy Director of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture, representatives of other relevant services and interested parties.
