COOPERATION WITH TURKEY IS GOING DEEPER IN THE FIELD OF AGROFORESTRY

Turkey has given to SRCA Jigaura experimental base the new perspective forms and clones of Populus ssp 20 different varieties within the Georgia-Turkey joint-scientific project that includes exploring, planting and care-breeding of the fast growing forest species in Georgia.

Duration of this project is 1 year and 6 months. More than 50 Populus ssp clones will be given to Georgia during this project that will be observed by Georgian specialists. Varieties adapted to Georgian climate conditions will be spread over the farms.

The director of the Poplar and Fast growing forest trees research Institute – Ercan VELİOĞLU and Prof. Zelda Akgul met Deputy Minister of Agriculture – Iuri Nozadze, Director of SRCA – Levan Ujmajuridze and specialists of the perennial crop research and planting material production department within the visit and discussed about project details.

Turkish scientists visited annual crop base in Tsilkani and base of permanent crop research in JIgaura, National Nursery in Sartichala as well.

It should be noted that Turkey is one of the most developed countries in the field of an agroforestry, where more than 10 institutes function.
